VMC limits medical imaging services on weekends
During the weekends, diagnostic medical imaging services at the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC) are limited to urgent emergencies only.
The VMC has been forced to limit these diagnostic services during weekend hours due to staffing shortages and increased demands.
Here's a list outlining what diagnostic imaging is available and not available for urgent emergency cases on weekends:
- no MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
- no nuclear scintigraphy
- CT (computed tomography) and ultrasound examinations — urgent emergency cases only
VMC staff assess all incoming patients, and they prioritize cases for weekend diagnostic imaging based on urgency. The veterinary teaching hospital cannot guarantee that any patient will access available diagnostics services on the weekend.
As well, please note that during after hours, an office call for medical imaging is double the regular fee.
If you have patients requiring diagnostic imaging, please advise them that the VMC can only offer diagnostic imaging to urgent emergencies only during weekends. If possible, please consider the option of sending patients home and advising your clients to bring their animals to the VMC during regular weekday hours.
