VMC clinical services: holiday schedules

Since the holidays are just around the corner, the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC) has compiled the holiday schedules for most of its referred clinical services. The VMC team wishes happy holidays to all of its partners in the referral veterinary community.

Small animal clinical services

  • Emergency and critical care: open throughout the holidays. Please note: the VMC’s clinical team continues to restrict patient intake to life-threatening cases (red zone) only from 10 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. each evening/night until Jan. 30. Visit the VMC Referral Services page for more details.
  • Surgery: emergency services only from Dec. 17, 2022, to Jan. 4, 2023.
  • Medicine: emergency services only from Dec. 19, 2022, to Jan. 4, 2023.
  • Wellness: closed from Dec. 16, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023.
  • MRI: no services available beginning on Dec. 19, 2022. MRI services will resume in January 2023 (read news brief for more details). 
  • Nutrition: referrals only. No appointments available during the month of December. 
  • Ophthalmology: emergency services only from Dec. 17, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023. Available for email/phone consultation or in person, depending on case/clinical availability.
  • Exotics: emergency services only from Dec. 24, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023.
  • Pet rehabilitation: closed from Dec. 24, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023. Urgent cases only on Dec. 30. 
  • Dermatology: emergency services only from Dec. 19, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023.
  • Dentistry: emergency services only from Dec. 19, 2022, to Jan. 6, 2023
  • Oncology: current chemotherapy patients only from Dec. 16, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023

Large animal clinical services and field service (equine and ruminants)

  • All services: regular clinical services available from Dec. 19 to Dec. 23
  • Emergency services only: Dec. 24, 2022, to Jan. 2, 2023

Veterinary social work

  • Closed from Dec. 19, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023. In absence of service, clinicians can call the following for urgent referrals: 
    • Mobile Crisis (306-933-6200)
    • redirect clients to Royal University Hospital emergency mental health team (attend to emergency)
