VMC limits veterinary ophthalmology services

During the next few months, the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre is limiting its veterinary ophthalmology services due to reduced clinical staff.

July 18 to August 4, 2025
Effective immediately, no veterinary ophthalmologist is available at the WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre until August 4, 2025. During this time, the hospital's small animal emergency service will only triage current ophthalmology patients.

As well, no new cases will be seen by an ophthalmologist, and referring veterinarians should not send any ophthalmology cases for consultation through the VMC's small animal emergency service.

July 18 to fall 2025
In addition, the VMC's veterinary ophthalmology service is not accepting new patients until fall 2025. Depending on the situation, emergency cases may be triaged and redirected to another veterinary referral centre.

The VMC will continue managing current veterinary ophthalmology patients. If you are a referring veterinarian who has questions about an ongoing case, please email vmc.info@usask.ca.

Alternative veterinary ophthalmology services
Alternative veterinary ophthalmology service providers in Western Canada are listed below. Availability is not guaranteed and please contact the clinic directly in advance before referring any patient.

The VMC clinical team thanks the veterinary community for its understanding and support!
