Small animal surgery limiting referral cases
The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre's small animal surgery service is only accepting life-threatening referral cases until further notice.
A surge in surgical cases and limited staff impelled the clinical service to announce that it could no longer accept regular small animal surgery referrals as of Wed., Sept. 11.
The VMC's clinical team reminds all veterinary clinics to call in advance before referring any small animal surgery patients or advising owners to bring their pets to the teaching hospital. Call 306-966-7126 (Small Animal Clinic reception) to confirm if the VMC’s clinical team can provide care for a patient or if the animal will need to be referred elsewhere.
The VMC continues to limit its after-hours service for small animal emergencies. The hospital restricts patient intake to life-threatening cases (red zone) only from 10 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. each night. The VMC's clinical team thanks everyone for their understanding. The hospital will update the referring veterinary community once the situation changes.
