While there are several types of mange, sarcoptic mange or scabies is the most common type found in dogs. If left untreated, it can result in acute infection and anemia. Consult your veterinarian if you see signs such as excessive scratching, hair loss, skin lesions or reddened skin.

Treatments may include antibiotics for an infection, an oral medication and an anti-mange shampoo or dip. In a multi-dog household, treat all of the dogs and quarantine any infected dogs whenever possible.
